JENNY JONES OF 'HARRIET J DESIGNS'

Handcrafted Silver Jewellery

I have a lovely studio at home where I get to spend time making lovely pieces of jewellery for my family, my friends and for you. I like to work with silver and copper, PMC, semi precious stones and freshwater pearls.

  • Why do you craft / make?

I craft and make because I totally enjoy it. I have a busy mind and so without being able to plan, think, change and create id probably become unwell and drive both myself and Ray (my old man) nuts.

  • What are your favourite projects?

I love commissions but I also hate them in case I disappoint the person I’m making for. I love everything I do really, from the simple to the complex, my jewellery and now painting. I also sew, knit and crochet.

  • What do you do to keep yourself, space and time organised?

I don’t really organise much, I react to either need or most often what my busy brain needs. I do have a lovely indoor studio where I hide away and do my own thing.

  • What are you’re can’t live without craft essentials?

Everything I have in my studio. I love new tools or things to play with my biggest problem is not buying more.

  • How would you describe your style?

I’m a Gemini and have a brain that can argue with its self so I guess my style is eclectic and fluid. It can change very quickly.

  • Are there any crafters / designers that you look up to?

I look up to crafters who are comfortable in their crafts, people who enjoy what they do and are not precious.

  • Where do you look for inspiration?

Everyone and everything provides inspiration.  I never stop looking and taking in information.

  • We live in such a mass-produced society, why should people continue to make things by hand?

We make because we create something different, something that has love and warmth built in, because detail and skill combined with care and love can’t be mass produced.

  • What is your advice for people who want to start crafting / selling?

Only start if you can cope with things taking a while, if you have patience and can cope with the disappointment if things don’t sell.

  • Do you take custom request?

I do take custom requests.
